SPRING into it.

DIY Spring Styling - find what is around your neighbourhood
We are still in Winter currently here in Melbourne - but the spring flowers have truly already started to blossom. Spring is my favourite season of the year and has significant symbolism for new beginnings after a more yin, subdued reflective period that winter tends to force. It's time to shake off the cobwebs, start planning the declutter, shake the rugs out, and invite new fresh energies (and smells!) in.
You don't need to spend money on a florist to make your home look expensive
There are an abundance of beautiful flora and fauna around if you know where to look. You can even post in your local facebook group for anyone who has a tree - a great way to make new friends and trade something in your community that they might want/need!
Here are some of my go to spring sprigs.
Cherry Blossom - The Japanese blossom that adds instant happiness to any room, don't need to go overboard but anywhere from 3-4 long sprigs in a tall vase

Magnolia - The native blooms even just 2 different height branches will work.

Eucalyptus - an abundant tree everywhere in Melbourne - there different varieties but Baby Blue Gum is the one you see alot of florists use.

Twist Cork Hazel Corylus Branches - This one is not so much for the flowers - but the sculptural branches, you can go big or smaller for table top vases - very organic wabi- sabi look.

King Protea - You might see some protea trees floating around, they also look great with the eucalptus.

Now you've got your fresh sprigs - there's preparation to ensure they last:
Clean the vase: Wash with soap and water to kill bacteria.
Trim the stems: Cut one inch off the bottom at an angle. Do this under water if you can.
Remove low leaves: Strip off any leaves that touch the water. Leaves rot fast and breed germs.
Change the water: Dump the old water and refill with fresh, cool water every two days.
Recut stems: Slice a tiny bit off the ends every few days to keep water flowing
Keep cool: Place the vase in a cool spot out of direct sun.
Avoid fruit: Keep flowers away from a bowl of fruit. Ripe fruit gives off gas that makes flowers die fast.
Supercharge the Water: 1 teaspoon of sugar to feed them, 1 teaspoon of vinegar to balance the pH, and a few drops of bleach per quart of water to kill bacteria.
Looking forward to opening my instagram app in the coming weeks and seeing your tagged photos of your Spring vase styling! I will be reposting them all! @leanalagominteriors
